We have tens of other vendors that have been supporting FreeBSD for
much longer and have more established track records. It wouldn't be a
pretty sight if every vendor spammed our technical lists like this.
10% of $5 is completely insignificant and only if the spamming is
wildly successful will it even amount to enough to fund a few hours of
a FreeBSD developer's time.
There's nothing wrong with his post to announce@, but in many ways the
whole "donating to the foundation.." line has been a disservice to
this community. The foundation is just one small part of how
companies can support FreeBSD, and as Warner mentioned, many that
claim to send them money never in fact do so.
