The multiple levels of abstraction and virtualization are indeed absurd.  I
have run FreeBSD in AWS for a decade, and now run a lot on arm64 / graviton
instances.  It's a little harder, since arm is not a "first class" platform
(no freebsd-update, etc.), but well worth it. Better, faster, and cheaper.

BTW, I've been using FreeBSD since 2.2.1, but I have yet to be convinced
that there is an orchestration framework for jails that is as mature and
useful as the numerous ones for Linux.  I'd be happy to be educated.
