            Bug ID: 218750
Summary: devel/dbus: X11 fails to start because
                    /etc/machine-id missing under 10.3 RELEASE 2017Q2
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Only Me
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: gnome at FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: scratch65535 at att.net

             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(gnome at FreeBSD.org)

Apparently, as of the current quarter, dbus wants to see a unique id in
/etc/machine-id, a file that did not previously exist. I discovered that this
morning when X failed to start because the file wasn't found. I created it per
documentation, and X started.

The pkg upgrade process (or the dbus part) should create that file when not
found, if it expects to see it. The id is apparently unconnected to anything
else in the world, so if I can create it in an ad-hoc way, surely dbus itself
can.
