GDM 2.14.0 configuration issues

Hi Everybody,
I've recently upgraded to GNOME 2.14 using the Marcuscom ports tree.
Since then I've been having issues with GDM. Whenever I try to
configure it from the login screen, any change causes it to restart.
Running gdmsetup from within an X session results in a filed called
(null) being created in the directory that I was in when I ran
gdmsetup. The contents of this are presumably what should go into the
custom.conf file in /usr/X11R6/etc/gdm
Running gdm manually through truss from a console spews out some
errors along the lines of:
stat("${prefix}/etc/gdm/gdm.conf,0xbfbfeb70) ERR#2 'No such file or directory'
I get the same message but for custom.conf.
I've tried this with both ports and the tinderbox package but it makes
no difference.
Everything else within GNOME 2.14 seems to work OK although I've not
tested it that much.
Any suggestions?
Al
