Note that this problem was only manifesting on *VERY CURRENT*
(i.e. updated within the last few days) RELENG_6 and with the latest
ports.  If you're testing on older versions, that only confirms that
it used to work previously.

Anyway, based on subsequent testing the problem seems to only be
sporadic, which will make it much harder to diagnose.
