SCSI driver causing kernel crash!

Hi people,

I am running Red Hat 7.1 (tried with both original 2.4
and latest RH 2.4.3-12 (?) kernel) trying to use a
Yamaha CD burner CRW8424S with a Adaptec AHA 2930 SCSI
card.

I noticed in the Red Hat release notes that the SCSI
driver has been updated.

Whenever I try to write to the drive (with cdrecrod /
gcombust running under root as it complains of no
privelage if otherwise) to reset or start burning -
the kernel crashes (workstation freezes and requires
a hard reset).

It worked fine under Mandrake 8.0 with the new 2.4
kernel - I suspect the driver is the problem. Nothing
else has changed on my workstation that I can tell
(or with Red Hat 7.1 compared with Mandrake 8.0).

Below is a exerpt from my system log during the crash
as well as after reboot which contains a lot of
system information in case that helps.
