% man dump

NAME
     dump - filesystem backup

SYNOPSIS
     dump [0123456789BbhfusTdWn [argument ...]] filesystem
     dump [0123456789BbhfusTdWn [argument ...]] directory

It *can* do it, but I would still advise having separate partitions, as whole
partition dumping is a lot better !
[[ and with PartitionMagic, you can resize and move your ext2 FSs ... ]]
