AIC-7895 woes.

Hi,
receiving no answer to my previous request, I did some investigations.
Here's the summary.

My config :
- dual Pentium II 450Mhz, Adaptec AIC-7895 Ultra SCSI Adapter
managing 2 disks (Seagate ST39173W) at ids 0 & 1 and 1 CD-ROM drive
(TOSHIBA XM-6201TA) at id 6.
- Redhat 5.2 (tests were carried out with kernels 2.0.36-0.7 and 2.0.36-3)

When using release 5.1.2 of the aic7xxx driver, I have access to all
drives but the system regularely freezes in SMP mode.

When upgrading to release 5.1.12 of the aic7xxx driver, the system
doesn't hang anymore except when trying to acces the CD-ROM drive
(scsi timeouts systematically occur).

Does anybody know how to get out of this situation (other than by
upgrading to kernel 2.2.x) ?

Thanks,

Mark.

P.S.: for completeness' sake, here's the output of /proc/scsi/aic7xxx
