problem with 3940uw in 2.2.3 kernel

Hi,

 I was wondering if anyone has ever had trouble with this card. It worked
under the 2.0.34 kernel, but when I upgraded to the 2.2.3 kernel, it got
stuck trying to "download instructions" into the second channel.
(PPro 200, Intel VS440FX motherboard, 1 drive in the A channel)

 When I inserted some debug messages into the 'download' loop, the problem
went away. Currently, i have a loop that counts to a thousand, and
everything seems to be okay. This is not right, and I was wondering if
there would be any valid reason for this problem, and why a busy loop
would fix it.
