Shutting down harddisks

Hi,
I trie to shut down my harddisks but there are some problems. I'm
using the scsi-idle tool Version 1.3.98. During the compilation of the
kernel or modul I get some warnings but everything goes ok.
If I shut down a harddisk I get many timneouts from the 2940 UW and
the kernel hangs.
Does someone use this tool or does there exist an other tool like
this?
