Unfortunately, I cannot reach the scanner whenever I want so I cannot test
thoroughly. Somehow I did not realize the pkg-message and the hint to the
special Readme-file. After having read it and following the instructions
(mainly installing net/epsonscan2-non-free-plugin from ports), I could start
the GUI and scan single-shots (even via sane scanimage). batch-scanning via
scanimage did not work at the moment.

I had a peek into the source code and it really seems kind of messy and lot of
work to patch it (Thank you, J.R. Oldroyd !). But it also seemed to me that the
newer version of epsonscan mainly added more scanner models, so that the
existing patches could "easily" be adapted since most of the necessary patching
work was already done by Oldroyd.

I would consider this issue solved. Thanks for your help!
