Ah, sorry, I thought I had verified that the patch applies cleanly, but I might
have reordered them after that check.  Indeed, I have another patch which adds
some uses of atomic_load_int(), but I don't believe they are necessary for
testing the patch, so I didn't include them.  The patch against 14.1 that
Henrich posted looks ok to me in any case.
