I might as well go ahead and chime in with this URL:

  http://www.watson.org/~arr/audit-essentials

Basically these are abstracts from some of my thought processes and areas
into which Im researching a bit prior to deciding on an implementation.
The order of completion for this piece of TrustedBSD are as follows:

 - Decide on features of audit subsystem
   - draft short paper describing the main pieces of this system.
   - get features approved by trustedbsd "WG" (heh)
 - Decide on interface
   - draft paper discussing interface
     - POSIX.1e compliance
     - non-POSIX.1e functions
   - draft "place holder" functions for approval
 - Hopefully have CVS so coding will be easier ... oh, Code.

I would appreciate any assistance people can offer... whether it be
insight into some of the thought process to some pieces of code.

More things coming...
