For the record, on X230 (Ivybridge) I actually see lower power
consumption with the new 3.8 kms:

(All at brightness 100)
Old kernel, no KMS:  11W
Old kernel, KMS:  13W
New kernel, no KMS:  11W
New kernel, KMS:  11W

With brightness down to minimum (5%):
New kernel, KMS:  8.9W
