By default? Here's what I see (magnified) with xterm when poking
-DFT_CONFIG_OPTION_SUBPIXEL_RENDERING. It's no different with gtk apps.

  $ fc-match -v | fgrep lcd
        lcdfilter: 1(i)(w)

  $ xrdb -query | fgrep rgb
  Xft.rgba:       rgb

  $ xterm -fa mono -fs 30
