Hi Karl,

You’re running into the exact same issue as I did. There is way too much outdated documentation.
I’ve attempted to contribute a fix: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=201787

That bug report contains a working configuration for a VPS that is running FreeBSD 10 in HVM mode, with a vanilla kernel (HVM support has been merged already in the 10-RELEASE kernel)
