Thanks Andreas.
Just trying a few other linux-based apps
deskutils/growl-for-linux - doesn't work correctly but doesn't core dump
either
editors/linux-sublime3 - works fine but requires removing linux-c7-* and
pulls in linux-c6-* dependencies

Yes its just a random tarball, however if it eventually works reliably I
hope to submit it to ports at .
- untarred the komodo app from
http://downloads.activestate.com/Komodo/nightly/komodoide/latest/
my version is:
Komodo IDE 10.2.1 (Build 89847)
10.2.1
- run the ./install.sh from within the tarball and install to
$HOME/apps/komodo
- run /usr/local/bin/komodo and resolve following missing libraries
- pkg installed the following packages through trial & error: `pkg leaf
|grep linux`
linux-c7-GConf2-3.2.6
linux-c7-alsa-plugins-oss-1.1.1
linux-c7-avahi-libs-0.6.31_1
linux-c7-cups-libs-1.6.3_2
linux-c7-dbus-glib-0.100_1
linux-c7-gtk2-2.24.28_3
linux-c7-nss-3.28.2
linux-c7-openssl-libs-1.0.1e_3
- I created an additional port as yet unsubmitted
https://github.com/skunkwerks/ports/tree/master/devel/linux-c7-gconf2/Makefile
I tried this morning the same approach using the latest komodo build and
using the linux-c6-* libraries, which are the ones that
editors/linux-sublime3 installed, and so far no crash nor core dump!
I will re-test tonight with the linux-c7-* libraries and the same latest
komodo to see what changed there (app or dependencies avoiding crash).

Either/both. Initially I was moving it to a new workspace on startup,
and yesterday I tried just waiting and found that alone was sufficient.
A+
