check your openfail mouse keyboard settings

i discussed this with patches i offered on (X's bugzilla) i get tired of 
repeating it :)  there are a few more tidbits of advice as well

use the below as DISCUSSION about blank screen & other common X or X.org 
issues, dont assume they are for running in BSD ;)
