Oops.. my bad.  This part turned out to be the monitor itself.  I switched
to another monitor and indeed it is not present.  Thanks for catching
this.

I didn't notice this part until a few weeks ago but I never got too far
in tracking it down since I couldn't reproduce it reliably.
