X troubles (possibly radeon related)

One of my experiments was to upgrade the X.org port
without upgrading the kernel/world. That broke my
system.
There may well be bugs on the vga/radeon drivers that
get brought out by the 6.9.0 Xorg upgrade, but no one
who has the expertise has yet even responded on the
issue.
