The web archive of the freebsd mailing lists at http://docs.freebsd.org/mail/current/ is not being updated as new messages are posted. As of today (2/2/2004) the lists show nothing posted in cvs-src, which is obviously not true. This is also true of -hackers and I'm guess of the other mailing lists.
I'm not sure if this should be a doc or a www bug, but I filed it under www as it pertains to the web representation of the mailing lists.
>How-To-Repeat:
Point your web browser at http://docs.freebsd.org/mail/current/ and look for a current post in one of the freebsd mailing lists.

Hi Mac,
Could you confirm that this is to totally replace the current SLLUG-BUG
entry?
Cheers,

Yes. We used to be a special interest group within SLLUG, but we're now
our own independent group. We're still friends with them, and somewhat
affiliated, but now we're GUBUG instead of SLLUG-BUG.
Thanks,

Hello to the Free BSD Team,
We are a mexican e-commerce website and we sell computer products. We run
our server www.paguito.com on a PIII Free-BSD. After two years of hard work,
our site receives now more traffic than www.officedepot.com.mx (The site for
Office Depot in Mexico) and www.OfficeMax.com.mx - TOGETHER.
www.samsung.com just included us in ther website as recommended e-store.
Whatch the banner linking to Paguito.com:
http://www.samsung.com/mx/products/isd.htm
We love FreeBSD. It saves us a lot of money and has allowed us, a family
operated company in the 3rd World, to compete and cooperate with mayor
international corporations without the costs of other operating systems.
I was thinking if it would be possible for you to include my site in your
gallery at:
http://www.freebsd.org/gallery/cgallery.html
May be I can cooperate too, by redistributing or perhaps mirroring here in
Mexico.
Thank you so much.
Pablo A Rend?n

I couldn't connect to ftp.freebsd.org earlier today, but it seems to
work now. You can also try one of the mirrors sites (e.g.
ftp.dk.freebsd.org) since they carry the same files.

Hi,
Are you sure that their product doesn't work on FreeBSD ? The page
http://www.replicon.com/products/wt_techspecs.asp states for the
client side : "Linux workstations and UNIX terminals running X
Windows".
Cc: to phantom@ as he adds (three years ago) Replicon Inc. to this
web page. May be he can add something about that.
Regards,
Stephane.

Sorry. I never did deep analyzis of entries were added to commercial
gallery. Mostly I just vizited their site and check if information
listed in submission is true. I think you need to check -www archives
and/or PRs under www categories -- 99% of submission were done over
these chanels.
PS: It is ok if information is not true anymore -- everything is changing
in this world. Just report it to ceri@ (he maintains commercial gallery
now), he'll check facts and remove item if it does not belong to our
gallery anymore.

Doesn't qualify - it's a web-based system ;-)
The FAQ definitively states that you need Windows for the server side,
so this can go. I'll add it to my ever growing backlog.

The gallery is still maintained. The maintainer likes to batch up the
submissions, although I don't know whether he waits for a certain number
of submissions or a set period of time.
With respect to the broken links, I wrote a very dirty script a short
while ago to check them all and remove them after three failures, but I
haven't had time to clean it up enough to trust the results yet.
So the short answer is, yes, it's still maintained as time permits.
Now, onto the commercial gallery which I maintain - I currently have
approximately 10 submissions outstanding. The reason for this is that I
am working on moving the build from the current raw-html-and-perl-script
to XML/XSLT, and have been backing them up behind that. It's probably
time for them to take priority over that work anyway, so I'll try to get
them in this week.

even ppc (once ported, if not already ported).
I recommend changing it to read:
"any computer running FreeBSD"
to be more platform-agnostic.

It's maybe time to add in committers doc the need to use
LC_ALL=C cvs ci, LC_ALL=C edit-pr etc. if they have custom localization.
(Well I was on the way to add it 1 year ago but... :) )

Message-ID:
Hi,
After the last update to the main page the link from the main page to the
NEWS page is lost. Since the news page has a "Press articles" item
my proposal is to change, on the lower right corner, the link to the
FreeBSD in the press, with a link to the news page.
So "FreeBSD in the press" could be changed to "FreeBSD in the news"
and the link should be changed to http://www.freebsd.org/news instead of
http://www.freebsd.org/news/press.html
Regards,
Gheorghe ARDELEAN.

The better option is to to enforce it in /usr/local/bin/edit-pr, which
can easily be done. I already approached admins@ about this a long time
ago, but I'm not familiar enough with locales to know exactly what
effect this would have on people who do use them.
How much would it freak you out to lose your locale setting within vi
with no warning, for instance? If the answer is "not much", then we'll
just go ahead and do it.

No, I had to do this manually. If you're trying to fix this with
edit-pr, then don't waste your time - it'll tell you that it's done it,
but hasn't really.

No one needs "localization" when it's time to use edit-pr or other

OK, I've requested that admins apply the attached patch to edit-pr on
freefall, which should prevent reoccurrence of this in the future.

Hello.
Recently I've received couple of "Your message to freebsd-foobar awaits
moderator approval" messages. The lists were freebsd-www, freebsd-newbies,
freebsd-sparc64, and freebsd-test. Surely I didn't send them(spams) to the
lists. It seems that some bad guy modifies its From: header to mine and sent
spams to lists, which is quite annoying. Now I've canceled all the messages
as instruction said.
Actually I didn't unvail my e-mail address except an send-pr some months ago.
I think spammers are collecting emails from pr page and abusing them.
Can the pr pages be modified to convert originators' email like this:
someone@somewhere.com -> someone at somewhere.com ?
I think that will protect originators' mailbox from spammer's bots to some
degree.
Thanks again for all your splendid works. ;-) Bye.

I've been getting them too. They're actually addressed to lists that I
am subscribed to, and not to me.

I think it's much more likely that they are harvesting on freebsd-bugs@,
where most PRs get sent automatically (they all end up on one list or
other). A quick look doesn't show much evidence of this happening via
the webserver.
> Can the pr pages be modified to convert originators' email like this:

While this could possibly be done on the webpages, it will never happen
within the database itself and therefore will not stop address
harvesting from the mailing lists, so I suspect it would be ineffective.

Please also note that empirical evidence to date suggests that there
exist some forms of worm/viruses/... that create both sender and
recipient addresses baased on patterns seens in existing email addresses
on the infected machine. [I am, for example, seeing quite a few
messages bounced at home and at work because the intended recipient
address does not exist. And at work, my boss requested that we
configure the script that invokes ClamAV to notify the
apparently-intended recipients of mail if a message was killed because
it contained a worm/virus/...; I am seeing quite a few such messages
being bounced because the recipient of the virus-infected message didn't
actually exist.]

That page hangs off the CVS INDEX files. I haven't been able to commit
one of those for a while because we were waiting on 5.2.1-R, but it's
on my list of things to do now that it's released.

Subject: sense of gallery
Message-ID: <20040228202910.GA306@jenny.daemon.li>
hi friends!
i start questioning the sense of the gallery part
of the website.
the idea of listing people who use freebsd
for their website is a nice one. on the one side
we can say "look x,y and z use freebsd" and on the other
user says "hey my homepage is listed on freebsd.org".
advertisement for both sides.
the problem is maintance. adding an entry is no problem
but regular checking, whether the link did not turn
into a porn site in the meantime (yes, this happened
quite often lately) or just returns 404.
it is not a problem to automatically check for 404
but content checking is not as trivial, and after all
we have about 5000 pages listed.
i also think, that practically, (although listing
is in theory a good thing, as outlined above), the
gallery brings only little benefit. okay, for a small
project, like a webgallery, showing users real use cases
of the software, is helpful, but i do not think that
listing 5000 webservers who use (or used at the time
of getting listed) FreeBSD helps.
to come to an end i think it would help us more, when
we just list a small number of big names, like Yahoo!,
that use FreeBSD, as an advertisment for us and remove
the other entries, which are just too hard to maintain.

Message-ID: <864qtaxfv0.fsf@basilisk.locus>
Using:
http://www.freebsd.org/search/search.html#mailinglists
for -questions with 250 results, and searching for 'postfix' I get
nothing back.
However, searching for 'sendmail' I get many responses back, including:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=2169038+2172839+/usr/local/www/db/text/2004/freebsd-questions/20040118.freebsd-questions
which has subject 'Re: Switch MTA -> Postfix' and is on -questions.
Could you let me know if you are the right people to look at this, or
who are if you aren't ?
Regards,

>Description:
Webpages produced by CGI scripts on www.freebsd.org do not have any DTD declaration nor
character encoding. This is due to lack of the features in cgi-lib.pl, used by all
the scripts.
I do not use cgi-lib.pl, thus I am not sure how to fix it.
>How-To-Repeat:
Try any script from www.freebsd.org/cgi/, e.g.

Many pages on www.freebsd.org have in them.
Validator says it should be "rect", not "RECT". (Similar other capitals are around also).
IIUC, all of them come from &header; in *.sgml, but I did not find, how they
come in upper case.
