  Ok, I have friend of mine with his not-so-old notebook here. It
 could do 802.11a, channels 36-64 and 149-165.

  It works worse than 802.11g. Signal strength is lower when two
 notebooks are side-by-side and bandwidth is almost the same or lower.

  This firend's notebook shows exactly the same performance for
 802.11g as mine, so, I think, they have comparable cards and antennas
 inside.
