I built a kernel at r352566.  It still prints this error message once per
second.  However, I did not get the messages from apcupsd about losing contact.
 I don't know if that means if it is working better or worse.  As I am running
12.0 userland, I went back to my previous kernel.

btw, I had to add "device iflib" to GENERIC.  I'll check whether anyone has
commented on that.
