   Only root has read access to your usb devices. Try executing

chmod 0666 /dev/usb*

   as root. To make changes "persistent", create file /etc/devfs.rules with

[devfsrules_common=7]
add path 'usb/*' mode 0666

   and add

devfs_system_ruleset="devfsrules_common"

   into your /etc/rc.conf
