Last Sunday, I forgot to disable DRI when I rebuilt stable/7 -- and much
to my pleasant surprise, X.org still worked.

It has continued to work yesterday and today -- I just built:

g1-99(7.2-S)[1] uname -a
FreeBSD g1-99.catwhisker.org 7.2-STABLE FreeBSD 7.2-STABLE #965 r198786: Mon Nov 2 06:47:05 PST 2009 root at g1-99.catwhisker.org:/common/S3/obj/usr/src/sys/CANARY i386
g1-99(7.2-S)[2]

and am running X.org (built under stable/6) with DRI enabled.

Last Sunday, I did veify, though, that attempting the same thing with
head still fails -- though disabling DRI (in xorg.conf) circumvents the
problem.

Peace,
david
