You can also download /pub/FreeBSD/ports/ports/ports.tar.gz from a FreeBSD ftp 
site, and expand that. It's the ports tree, updated every day. Then you can 
update with c[v]sup later. I don't know if this is faster for a user, but I'd 
assume it's less load for the cvsup servers.
