The admin/acinclude.m4.in from KDE HEAD has the freebsd pthread configure
check fixed, you just need to set PTHREAD_LIBS in configure's environment
(i.e. run env PTHREAD_LIBS=-pthread ./configure).
Check configure's output, it should contain this line:
checking whether c++ supports -pthread... yes
It should NOT look like this:
checking for pthread_create in -lpthread... yes
