They're Brocade Silkworms (3000 model?) branded by HP/Compaq as "HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 2/16". Both switches are running Brocade's Fabric OS v3.2.1c, which is basically the latest (and last) firmware issued in the 3.x series. The 4.x firmware/OS only runs on newer hardware.

I got my main boxes to netboot off a head debug build before leaving the lab, I'll try and replicate the nutty-behaviour-when-unzoned over the next couple of days and get a bit more info for you. (You're more than welcome to full access to the network if it helps debugging/testing things.)
