I'm going to point out that it isn't always pass/disk as is demonstrated
by this:
root at carbon:/home/jmg # camcontrol devlist
<IBM-DTLA-307045 TX6OA60A> at scbus0 target 0 lun 0 (ada0,pass0)
<HPT DISK 0_0 4.00> at scbus7 target 0 lun 0 (da0,pass1)
<HPT DISK 0_1 4.00> at scbus7 target 1 lun 0 (pass2,da1)
<HPT DISK 0_2 4.00> at scbus7 target 2 lun 0 (da2,pass3)

It depends upon the controller.. da0 and da2 are normal boot, but da1 is
reverse because it came about after a disk was replaced and a rescan for
the disk..
