I'll say it one more time. Go into the BIOS for the _controller_ and
turn on the cache. Yes, linux performs better at 'dd' in the non-cache
case because linux sends larger i/o's down to the controller than
freebsd does. This difference matters little when doing real file i/o.
So no, you don't have to switch to linux, and no, linux doesn't actually
perform better.
This has been discussed many times on this and other mailing lists.
