As there has been plenty of talk lately about performance of
different raid controllers, I thought I would post some numbers
for the HP DL380g3 with built-in 5plus controller. The system
is a single P4-3.06GHz/512KB Cache/533MHz FSB, 6GB memory (running
PAE kernel), 6x36GB 15K RPM drives in a raid 5 setup. The controller
has 64MB cache, which is set to 50%/50% for read/write.
Using the method used in another post, here are the results:
evil root /home/ulf # dd if=/dev/zero of=output bs=64k count=200000
200000+0 records in
200000+0 records out
13107200000 bytes transferred in 344.324989 secs (38066363 bytes/sec)
evil root /home/ulf # dd of=/dev/null if=output bs=64k count=200000
200000+0 records in
200000+0 records out
13107200000 bytes transferred in 176.682004 secs (74185258 bytes/sec)
