It's not regaing the sddm screen as the problem. I've been using service
sddm stop and later the onestart.
The problem is that sddm PUTS me in a Cinnamon desktop, even though I
selected Plasma.
I CAN get a Plasma desktop by un-commenting the appropriate exec in my
.xinitrc.
