This becomes much simpler if you are not stuck on mailx. Alpine and mutt
are both text based email clients that will imap.
You could even run those on a local windows machine (though it may
require cygwin or the windows built in unix stuff) if you wanted.
If you wanted remote access to the client via the internet you could set
up a vps with someone like vultr who has a $2.50/month host (if you pick
their NJ data center) and run them there.
If you're using imap you cold do it in both places if you wanted.
