The recommended LaTeX port?

I have used both and found MiKTeX <https://miktex.org/> the more robust of the
two. If you do decide on MiKTeX, I would strongly recommend the "Net"
installer <https://miktex.org/download>, either 32 or 64 bit depending on your
system. Unless you plan on sharing this installation with multiple users on
your PC, I would strongly recommend that you use the single-user installation
mode.

I also use TeXstudio <https://www.texstudio.org/> as  my writing environment
for creating LaTeX documents. Just a personal preference.

Personally, I have found using LaTeX to be easier to maintain and keep
up-to-date on a Windows' based machine.
