Disk not spinning up

The intermittent nature of this, and the "wiggling things makes it go
sometimes", makes me think this might be a cracked solder joint on the
controller.

As a last ditch effort it might be worth trying to reflow the board in a
house-hold oven (convection-style ovens are best because of the more
even heat distribution).  I have not tried this myself, although I do
have a friend that was able to fix a video-card doing this.
