I think that is the main reason why "lame" is in use for
so many cases, as stand-alone program and as dependency
or library (e. g. libmp3lame <- ffmpeg <- youtube-dl).

Except you want to create audio CDs from MP3 files (to play
them in a device that doesn't read MP3 data CDs). :-)
