Why is pinta not available in ports/graphics or packages ?

That sounds quite challenging. Good understanding of Makefiles, FreeBSD ports system, and possibly a few other things. I am a bit scared of the prospect of being whiplashed for blunders, but I would like to at least try it.

Is there something like a good primer for a person to read for getting up to the task of maintaining a port ?
