Spontaneous reboots with splash

YES, but i am using the vesa_load="YES" statement. First custom BOOT 
splash screen was on FreeBSD version 3.0. I have moved it up to every 
new version as it became available with out any problems.

Now I do remember that I had some kind of problem with the screen size 
and format used. vesa_load="YES" statement fixed what ever the exact 
problem I was having at that time.
