why would I get a segmentation fault on one system but not the other?

Sorry, I didn't notice this part earlier. That particular bug refers
to the recode extension.

[benfell at vegan ~]% pkg info | grep php55-recode
php55-recode-5.5.22            The recode shared extension for php

So I don't know. It isn't causing me a problem here.
