thanks that was it, I executed:
zpool set bootfs=zroot/ROOT/default zroot

Removed the boot pool definition from /boot/loader.conf, as this is
not required by freebsd 9.2 anymore and rebooted the system.
Now my root got mounted from zroot/ROOT/default and beadm can be
executed without any problems.
