I've butchered it further, but thanks for doing the *real* work:

user:
alias precmd 'set prompt = "\n%{\033[32m%}%m [%h] [%@]%b%{\033[0m%} 
[`pwd`]$ "'

root:
alias precmd 'set prompt = "\n%{\033[31m%}%m [%h] [%@]%b%{\033[0m%} 
[`pwd`]$ "'
