xdm and gdm

there are imho nowhere.

gdm is fine and works. the problem is that i wasn't able to my non-gnome 
.xsession work properly with gdm at all.

at the same time i like xdm and want to use, RARELY use it to run gnome.

Do you have any data about preparations that gdm do?
