Using sendmail as a client with auth

Look at the output of

  ldd /usr/libexec/sendmail/sendmail

If there's no mention of sasl2 there, then your modifications to the
build process would seem to have failed.

Otherwise, it's a configuration problem and you need to double check
/etc/mail/$(hostname).mc and your client auth data.
