Firefox won't start

I recently did a ports update and after a bit of effort I got firefox3 to compile with no errors.  But now when I either select Firefox from the menu or start it from a terminal window nothing happens.  Firefox does not start and there's no indication of any problems.  When I use ps to see if it's hung I see nothing.  Ideas?
