I found in /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/cc/cc_tools/i386-freebsd.opt:
mno-align-long-strings
Target RejectNegative Report Mask(NO_ALIGN_LONG_STRINGS)
Do not align long strings specially

What does FreeBSD mean by "Do not align long strings specially"?
