you are looking for LD_LIBRARY_PATH

You should do this with ldconfig so its there all the time; but use the
linux compat one, not the freebsd base system one.

The port should have done this for you.

cat /compat/linux/etc/ld.so.conf
include ld.so.conf.d/*.conf
/lib
/usr/lib
/usr/local/lib
