vidcontrol -i mode
to see supported modes
the ones you are looking for are probably the graphical modes
vidcontrol MODE_279
for 1024x768 at 16bit
or
vidcontrol MODE_282
for 1280x1024 at 16bit
assuming your card has enough memory.
