ACPI and APM on 5.3

'acpiconf -s 1' works well for me too on my laptop while using only 
acpi.  However 'acpiconf -s 3' causes an immediate reboot of the 
machine.  No errors... nothing logged. Just blip... and a fresh POST of 
the machine.  Its immediate... doesn't think twice.

Haven't had much time to look into it.
