remove cpu in freebsd

Hi,

I am a newbie to freebsd, I need to remove one cpu from my freebsd
(5.2.1-release version) server.
Do I need to recompile my kernel? If yes, any hints?
Or I can just shutdown, remove the cpu and reboot the machine ?
