I have some questions about telnet/telnetd/libtelnet/tn3270 and why FreeBSD is different than other BSDs in this regard

Sorry, I don't have time to help with your research.

I recommend you either

1) Install the port, and move on with your life, or

2) If this is simply unacceptable to you, then install a different
Operating System which conforms to your opinion of how the world
should work.
